The great gritstone escarpment runs for three miles along the eastern moor above Hathersage — a mile-high wall of ancient rock that has drawn climbers, walkers and painters for generations. This painting captures one of those moments — rain sweeping in across the moor, the sky darkening over the edge, the landscape shifting from golden to grey as the weather rolls in from the west.
