1. Statement of Intent

I, Sheila Gill, trading as Sheila Gill Art, am committed to conducting my business in an environmentally responsible manner. I recognise that my activities have an impact on the natural environment and I am dedicated to minimising that impact wherever reasonably practicable.

This policy sets out my commitment to good environmental practice and my approach to continual improvement. It applies to all aspects of my business operations, including the products and services I provide, the way I work, and the suppliers and partners I engage with.

2. Legal Compliance

I am committed to complying with all relevant UK environmental legislation, including but not limited to:

  • The Environment Act 2021

  • The Environmental Protection Act 1990

  • The Climate Change Act 2008

  • The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011

  • The Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2015

I will monitor changes to environmental legislation and update my practices accordingly.

3. Energy and Carbon Emissions

I recognise the importance of reducing carbon emissions in response to climate change. I will:

  • Monitor my energy consumption and seek to reduce it where possible

  • Where practical, choose renewable or low-carbon energy sources

  • Avoid unnecessary travel and favour remote working, video calls, and digital communications

  • Where travel is required, favour lower-emission modes of transport

  • Consider the carbon footprint of my business activities when making purchasing decisions

4. Waste Reduction and Management

I am committed to reducing the waste my business generates and ensuring what waste does arise is managed responsibly. I will:

  • Follow the waste hierarchy: reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, and dispose responsibly

  • Minimise the use of single-use plastics and non-recyclable materials

  • Recycle paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, and electronic waste wherever facilities allow

  • Dispose of all business waste legally and through appropriate licensed channels

  • Choose packaging that is recyclable, recycled, or minimal where possible

5. Responsible Procurement

When purchasing goods and services for my business, I will:

  • Give preference to suppliers with demonstrable environmental credentials

  • Choose products that are durable, repairable, and made from sustainable or recycled materials

  • Avoid over-ordering to reduce the risk of waste

  • Source locally where practical to reduce transport emissions

6. Digital Operations

As a business that operates online, I recognise that digital activity carries an environmental footprint. I will:

  • Keep digital storage organised and delete unnecessary files, emails, and data to reduce server energy use

  • Choose web hosting and digital service providers that use renewable energy where possible

  • Avoid unnecessary printing; where printing is necessary, use recycled paper and print double-sided

  • Extend the life of IT equipment and recycle or donate devices responsibly when no longer needed

7. Continual Improvement

I am committed to continually improving my environmental performance. I will:

  • Review this policy at least annually and update it to reflect changes in my business or best practice

  • Set and review environmental objectives as part of my business planning

  • Stay informed about environmental issues relevant to my industry

  • Where appropriate, communicate my environmental commitments to customers, suppliers, and partners

8. Communication and Transparency

I believe in being open about my environmental commitments. I will make this policy available to customers and stakeholders upon request and will publish it on my website where applicable.

I welcome feedback from customers and others on how I can improve my environmental performance.

9. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if there are significant changes to my business activities or relevant legislation. The most current version will always be available on request.
